The homeowner was alerted by the smoke alarm sounding in the dwelling. First arriving Chief 13 (Blankenship) reported smoke visible from the 2 story dwelling after completing his 360 degree size up. Fallston units were in the process of returning from an earlier call for a dwelling fire in Baltimore County, Engine 1311 had just returned to the station, Truck 13 was still on the road returning from the earlier call off Dulaney Valley RD when the Arden Rd call was dispatched. With assistance from one of our local food truck owners, Tony Honig from Dough Slingers Funnel Cakes and more LLC, our members were able to maximize the evening and become more familiar with these vehicles. Hartlove covered generators, propane cooking systems, kitchen hood fire suppression systems and the usual vehicle hazards during the presentation.
This training was attended by over 20 of our members who were able to see firsthand the systems and safety features that we would expect to encounter when handling a food truck emergency. Last Monday FVFAC Captain Hartlove presented a training session for our members on mobile food conveyance emergencies. With the growth of the food truck industry, as with any form of commerce, unfortunately accidents are apt to occur. We started doing our food truck events at FVFAC in 2018 and have seen constant community support for these events ever since, and we thank our community and the vendors who show up week after week for making our events one of the best around! One of the most rapidly growing segments of many local economies is the Food Truck Industry. The activation of a single sprinkler head not only allowed the employees of the theater an opportunity to escape the building unharmed, but also extinguished the fire and considerably reduced the potential fire, heat, and smoke damage to the building. FVFAC and other responding units handled smoke removal, isolating electrical sources, shutting down the sprinkler system and related hazards. Further investigation revealed that the fire, originating in the commercial popcorn machine, had been extinguished by the activation of a single sprinkler head. First arriving units reported that there was smoke throughout the lobby area as well as an automatic sprinkler system activation. While en route, responding units were advised by Harford County Fire Dispatch that the caller was reporting a fire involving the theater’s popcorn machine. March 13 the Fallston VFAC and surrounding mutual aid fire companies were dispatched to the Horizon Cinemas Fallston in the 2300 block of Belair Rd for a report of a building fire.
